bikemap2010

Whether you want to start biking or have been riding for years, the NYC Department of Transportation’s 2010 map is an essential resource for the numerous bike paths this city has to offer. Download the map here, or use their site to plan a bike-safe route.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

mp0014

It’s been pretty dreary here in New York for a couple of days, but now the weather is beautiful.  But since I didn’t see any rainbow after the sky cleared up, there’s probably no pot of gold either.  But there is the fantastic St. Patrick’s Day parade going down 5th Avenue as we speak!

I’d go join in, instead I’m updating our blog to tell all of you that we will be sharing the celebration by offering a free pouch (this one) with an order of any green or olive colored bag on manhattanportage.com today or tomorrow!  Just write “SHAMROCK” in the notes/comments section when you check out!

Which Irish pub are you going to tonight?

Live this week Google Maps has added Bike There directions.
After a long campaign, this feature went live earlier this week.

While I have yet to test this feature out, I have been waiting for this for quite some time.

Check it our for yourself and let us know what you think.

Hopefully we will have a review of just how bikeable the plotted path ends up being.

It’s hot in the city

I\'m melting

Melting, Melting.

For all of you in NYC you will not doubt notice that summer has hit with a vengeance.  A vengeance like no other.

This is the kind of oppressive heat where you duck into air conditioned space to air conditioned space and pray to the gods that you get a subway car with working air conditioning.

I think the heat has gone to my brain a little.  I hope everyone out there in blogging land has been able to stay cool.

Bike Month NYC May 2008

Bike Month 2008

It’s bike month here in NYC, and there are biking events going on all throughout the city all month long!

This is the 17th annual bike month.  Bike month celebrates alternative transportation through New York City, both as a way to decrease congestion and make people healthier in the process.

Today there is both the Central Park moonlight bike ride (which begins at Columbus Circle at 10 pm).  Beforehand, riders can meet up in Astoria, Queens to wet their whistle at the  Bohemian Beer Garden (24th Ave. at 29th St., Astoria).

There are a ton of biking events going on throughout the city.  I have my eyes on the Cycle Punk opening show, which features Team Spider at the East Sixth St. Community Center in Manhattan, starts at 7PM all ages.  Sliding scale donation of $5 – 10 at the door.

Check out the Bike Month NYC website for tons more events!
